Every case below is from 2024 onward. Our Google reviews go back to February 2018. We publish recent ones so that the trainers, programs and prices you read about are the ones you would get today. Where a review does not name the program or the breed, the table says so; we have not filled in the gap.
We have not shown only the easy dogs. You will find two dogs with anxiety and aggression in a home with children, a dog animal control had labelled aggressive, a family that was about to rehome, and owners who say plainly that the work is not finished.
Seven of our 252 reviews are not five stars. The ones that give a reason are mostly about method: we train with e-collars, and some owners do not want that. If you are one of them, read the last section of this page before you call.

Board and train: obedience and off-leash control
I have trained my own dogs before. What if this one is beyond me?
Tater, a one-year-old Doberman, went through the 2-Week Board and Train at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville with trainer Caleigh. His owner had trained Boerboels and a Great Dane herself and still could not hold his attention for two seconds. She reports he came home calmer, more affectionate and completely manageable.
“I was at my wits end with my turbo charged, 1year old Doberman. Tater behaved more like an explosion than a dog! Despite having trained my own Boerboels and a Great Dane, I realized I was out of my league with Tater. I could not get his attention for more than 2 seconds. [...] Tater went with Caleigh for the 2 week board/train program. She kept me updated with daily pics, videos, and texts, and I was amazed at his rapid progress. Will the training hold up in a crowd, or only with the trainer?
Poppy, a black Labrador Retriever, spent two weeks in board and train with trainer Caleigh at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville. The week after she came home her owners took her to a festival with more than 1,000 people and other dogs, and report she followed every command.
“Poppy returned to us after 2 weeks and Caleigh spent over 2 hours with us making sure that we understood the in's and out's of every single command. The following week of Poppy's return we took her to a large festival with 1000+ people in attendance as well as other dogs. Poppy behaved flawlessly and followed every single one of her commands despite all of the distractions making it a very pleasant experience. If you are on the fence about sending your dog to be trained I must say that it is completely worth the cost.”

How do I choose a trainer when every website says the same thing?
Rudy's owner chose Off Leash K9 Training Asheville on the strength of customer reviews and videos alone. Trainer Delaney sent daily updates with photos and video, delivered Rudy home and walked the owner through each command. Two weeks later Rudy took his first walk into town off leash.
“I chose Off Leash K9 simply based on user reviews and videos. Delaney was his trainer and did a wonderful job throughout the process. Would anyone pay for this twice?
One Asheville-area family sent two giant-breed dogs through board and train with trainer Caleigh at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville: first Bonnie, a Newfoundland and Great Pyrenees mix over 100 pounds, then Maple, a 10-month-old Newfoundland. They report both dogs can now go anywhere and are gentle with the family's newborn.
“We recently picked up our dog Maple from her 2 week training with Cayleigh and she is a new pup! Maple is a 10 month old Newfoundland who was even crazier than the first dog we sent for training [...] With both of our newfies now trained by Cayleigh we can take them ANYWHERE and handle them with ease. Puppies and adolescent dogs
My puppy grabs everything and cannot switch off. Is that trainable?
A six-month-old Labradoodle who grabbed things, ran off with them and could not settle spent two weeks with trainer Caleigh at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville. His owner reports good on- and off-leash manners, a reliable drop command and a dog that settles himself on the place command.

Should a puppy do the one-week program first, or wait for the two-week?
Silo's owner used two programs at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville with trainer Caleigh: the 1-Week Puppy Board and Train first, and the 2-Week Board and Train later. She describes daily pictures, videos and written recaps, a handover where the owner is trained too, and a night-and-day difference.

What actually happens on the day my dog comes home?
Oakli, a seven-month-old puppy, completed the two-week program at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville with trainer Delaney. His owner singles out the two-hour review and demonstration at pickup, which gave her the confidence to keep reinforcing what he had learned.

My puppy drags me down the road and eats everything. What changes in two weeks?
A puppy who would not listen, dragged his owners down the road and ate things he should not spent two weeks with trainer Tara of Off Leash K9 Training Asheville. His owner reports he now walks beside them, has stopped eating what he should not, and was still following every command after Tara left.
“When he left to go with her he would not listen to anything, he was dragging us down the road on walks, eating things he shouldn't have been despite us being really careful. When she returned him Friday she walked us through everything that she did with him and had us practice so we were comfortable with everything before she left. Can a 90-pound adolescent dog really walk calmly through a crowd of children?
Ash, a 90-pound, ten-month-old German Shepherd trained by Caleigh at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville, walked at heel through a neighbourhood crowded with trick-or-treaters without barking, lunging or whining. A few months earlier his owner needed her full body weight to control him on a walk.
“I took my now 10 month old, crazy, excited, child-loving 90lb German Shepherd, Ash, out on a heel walk with my son through our insanely crowded neighborhood of Trick-or-Treaters... and he did AMAZING!! Fear, reactivity and aggression
We have two dogs with anxiety and aggression, and two children at home. Where do we start?
Cali and Lexi, two dogs who struggled with anxiety, aggression and basic obedience in a home with two children, trained with Erin at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville. Their owners report calmer home life and dogs that are more focused and confident both at home and in public.

We avoid taking our reactive dog anywhere. Does that ever change?
Mav, a 100-pound pit bull and Cane Corso mix, was reactive to people, new environments and the car. Can training help a dog that freezes or panics rather than one that misbehaves?
Minnie, an English Mastiff, was under-socialised and often paralysed by anxiety: cowering, panting heavily, running away or barking at what frightened her. Animal control labelled my dog aggressive. Is she, or is she frightened?
Nugget, a stray who had been deemed aggressive by animal control, was brought to trainer Caleigh at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville by a family whose German Shepherd Caleigh had trained three years earlier. They report Nugget now recalls reliably and no longer has to be watched around their other dog.
“3 years ago Caleigh trained our German Shepherd. Bella. We now have another dog, she found us and when we decided to keep her we knew Caleigh was our first phone call! [...] Though she was deemed aggressive by animal control [...] we knew she wasn't aggressive, just scared and anxious. Do I need a board and train for leash reactivity, or will lessons do?
A four-year-old German Shepherd mix had started reacting to other dogs on leash. Her owner took a lesson-based reactivity course with trainer Erin at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville, saw a difference in impulse control after the first few sessions, and no longer avoids passing other dogs.
“My 4 year old German Shepherd mix was starting to show a new behavior of leash reactivity to other dogs and I was struggling to know how to manage her on our twice daily walks. After just the first few sessions and practicing at home, I started to see a noticeable difference in my dogs impulse control when approaching/passing dogs on our walks. Service dogs and family safety
Can a rescue dog be trained as a service dog for a child with autism?
Patrick, a dog adopted from a local rescue, had a natural connection with his family's son, who has autism. The family chose Off Leash K9 Training Asheville for service dog training after comparing several local trainers, and worked with trainer Delaney.
“We got Patrick from a local rescue, he had a natural connection with our son who has autism. It was suggested to have him trained as a service dog. I contacted a few places in the area. We are thinking about rehoming our dog for a relative's safety. Is training worth trying first?
A family with a puppy of about a hundred pounds was considering rehoming her for the safety of an elderly parent. After training with Delaney at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville they kept her.

Is e-collar training a punishment?
Dolly, a doodle who had already been through puppy training elsewhere, stayed with trainer Delaney of Off Leash K9 Training Asheville for a few weeks. Her owner describes the method as a way to redirect the dog's attention, not a punishment, and reports Dolly now walks off leash without running into the street.
“Delaney at Off Leash Trainjng took Dolly for a few weeks and returned a different dog to us. Dolly was confident, happy and obedient once back home. Do the results last if I do nothing afterwards?
Toby's owners saw a clear difference after his two weeks away with trainer Caleigh at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville, and say plainly that the result depends on them: if they do not keep following what they were taught, it will be worth nothing.

Is every dog finished after two weeks?
Evie spent two weeks training with Caleigh at Off Leash K9 Training Asheville because she bucked and pulled when passing other dogs. Her owner reports a well-behaved dog and says honestly that passing other dogs is still a learning curve for both of them.
